How To Prevent Sleep Wrinkles

Sleep wrinkles will eventually become permanent from constant compression and decreased skin elasticity with age. Squishing your face and Décolletage into a pillow for approximately 2,500 hours per year is like ironing wrinkles into the skin. 

Every-time I woke up and looked in the mirror - I started noticing wrinkles on my Décolletage. As the day wore on, the lines slowly disappeared and came back deep the next morning.I began to notice that many women, myself included, have distressed Décolletage with otherwise smooth, wrinkle-free skin. I did some research and realised I was developing sleep wrinkles. 

A lot of it boils down to the way you sleep. 

The ONLY WAY to prevent sleep wrinkles is to sleep on your back. 

Cindy Crawford admits that décolletage maintenance is top of mind for her. “When you’re 20, pillow lines go away in fifteen minutes,” says Crawford. “But as I’ve gotten older, I notice those lines take a little longer.”

In sunny Queensland where I live - it is hot all year round so we wear heaps of strapless and off-the-shoulder garments that expose our Décolletage. That's why it is so important to keep this area as fresh as your face.

When sleeping, I try to lie on my back but always wake up curled into a little ball on my side.

Some women love them but I personally hate them. I pulled them off when I fell asleep and it felt like I was wearing sticky tape. 

 

SLEEP ON YOUR BACK

If you don't want to accumulate sleep wrinkles in the long-term sleeping on your back is the best habit to have. 

Jennifer Lopez sleeps only on her back and she has pillows around her to help keep her off her side. It also helps to have a yoga bolster pillow underneath your knees to keep you more comfortable.

I hate sleeping on my back – but it has so many benefits for your ageing and posture.  Sleeping on your back allows your head, neck, and spine to rest in a neutral position – while it keeps your facial skin and décolletage smooth and crinkle free.

Investing in an amazing pillow with support can be really important for your sleep as well. My sleep quality had majorly improved since investing in a posture pillow. 

Being able to sleep on your back is also a really important for you when you've had procedures such as botox! Otherwise you could migrate the botox into other areas on the face.

While speaking about sleep - I thought I'd mention the importance of using a cool humidifier which can add moisture to the air in your home and restore the humidity level, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and healthy. This will help you if you live in a dry climate and also if you have the heater on.
